Dr Doom

Dr. Doom by Chilean visual artist, illustrator and arts teacher Jorge Opazo. Jorge is the creator of the comic strip Andrei, the story of a lonely cosmonaut, which appeared in the Chilean newspaper El Metropoitano. His paintings, which are inspired by childhood, contemporary art and comics, have been exhibited in Chile, Argentina, Germany and Belgium.

Kirby FatKids

New Orleans web designer/graphic artist Brian Richard has drawn over a 130 pop culture inspired FatKids for his on-going Tumblr project, #FatKid has a Posse. Amongst the gallery of comic/film/TV characters can be found a number Kirby creations including the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. Check out the full gallery at Brain’s Flickr photostream, here.

The Catastic Four

Tampa based artist Mike Maihack‘s unique vision of Marvel’s first family. Mike is the editor and art director of the Christian comic anthology, Parable, and creator of the webcomics, Cow & Buffalo and Cleopatra in Space. Comic Twart – The Thing

Ben Grimm, the ever lovin’ blue eyed Thing, is this week’s choice at the collective sketch blog, Comic Twart. Aunt Petunia’s favorite Nephew was chosen by Evan ‘Doc’ Shaner, whose fantastic contribution above features no less than five Kirby creations.

This dynamic rescue scene, which also features Reed Richards, comes from the brush of Francesco Francavilla. Francesco’s pulp inspired artwork has graced the pages of Zorro, The Black Coat, Sorrow and the forthcoming Garrison. He is the creator of Black Beetle, whose adventures can be found every Sunday at Franceso’s blog, Pulp Sunday. A legion of Kirby creations feature in this private commission by Brooklyn based artist Anthony Castrillo. Anthony originally trained as a graphic designer before moving into comics in the early ’90’s. He has worked for both Marvel and DC and describes himself as “a full-time Dad, moonlighting as a cartoonist”.
