-Link- Evanier on KIRBY: KING OF COMICS

by

Mark Evanier mentions that if you’re going to WonderCon in San Francisco this weekend, you might be able to pick up a copy of KIRBY: KING OF COMICS and get it signed by him. Otherwise it should be out everywhere else soon, and he has some encouraging early word on orders for it.

Adding, CBR has a rundown of the WonderCon Kirby Panel.

-Link- KING OF COMICS out soon

by

Mark Evanier reports that he now has a copy of his book KIRBY: KING OF COMICS, and copies should be arriving in stores and shipping from mail-order places within the next few weeks. Links to some reviews by Pete Sanderson already over on this page, where I’ll post other review links as I come across them.

Happy Joe Simon Day

by

Today is Joe Simon’s 94th birthday, and he’s still going strong. Happy Birthday, Joe.

Mark Evanier has a post up about Simon. And of course you should keep an eye on the S&K Blog for a regular dose of some great analysis and wonderfully restored classic comic book images from Simon’s career.

-Link- Hunger Dogs reprint format

by

DC has announced how the reprint of “The Hunger Dogs” in the upcoming fourth volume of THE FOURTH WORLD OMNIBUS will be handled. Short form, the 24 pages of the original version of the story will be restored to their original trim size and Royer inked format, but still integrated with the later pages as published in the 1980s. All the pages will be re-coloured into a style matching the 1970s material reprinted in the series. The book is due next March.

-Link- Kirby: King of Comics delayed

by

Mark Evanier mentions that his book KIRBY: KING OF COMICS has been rescheduled for February of next year. A bit of a bummer for those of us looking forward to it, but I guess good news that it’ll be a better book for the delay.

-Link- Interview with Royer

by

Daniel Best has a long interview with Mike Royer over on his blog. Haven’t had a chance to read the whole thing yet, but what I’ve skimmed has a lot of interesting anecdotes on various eras of Royer’s life, and there’s a lot of interesting art (including some of Royer’s Winnie the Pooh stuff).

-Link- NYT on Kirby

by

The New York Times has a short article by Brent Staples on Jack Kirby and the increasing recognition he’s getting for his contributions in some circles. The article seems to have been edited down a bit (it mentions two upcoming books about Kirby in passing, without ever getting around to specifying what they are), but is pretty good, and suggests that a movie based on Kirby’s life would be in order.

-Link- 1982 San Diego photos

by

Alan Light has posted a stack of photos that he took at the 1982 San Diego Con. Included are four photos of Jack Kirby, two solo and two flacked by Will Eisner and Roz Kirby.

Panels – Ben likes his cake

by

Ah, that’s the spirit of teamwork that you like to see.

But my favourite part of this panel is the giant hunk of cake that Ben is having with his coffee.
