Couple of new Kirby publications should be in comic shops and available from the usual places today. Most importantly, THE JACK KIRBY COLLECTOR #46, with a focus on the Fourth World books. From Marvel is BLACK PANTHER BY JACK KIRBY v2, with Kirby’s last five issues of the series, plus the non-Kirby ending of the story, and MARVEL WESTERNS: KID COLT AND THE ARIZONA GIRL with a few Kirby/Ayers back-up reprints.

Back in town
I’m back from my trip. Give me a few days to recover and I should be back to daily posting by the weekend. Lots of stuff to catch up on, including several Kirby reprints released in the past few weeks, as well as a few things I saw in the UK that I need to find more information on.
Edit: actually, I see Rand must have updated the Kirby Announcement page on stuff that came out. Thanks, Rand. Didn’t realize the COMIC STRIP book had come out. Something to look forward to for sure. And that ETERNALS book sure is tempting, though pricy.

New Kirby – Essential FF v5
Available now, ESSENTIAL FANTASTIC FOUR v5, reprinting the last of Kirby’s FF run, plus the first few post-Kirby issues, everything from #84 to #110. Also included are three pages from copies of Kirby’s pencils from #89 and a photo feature of bullpen photos from the late 1960s including a photo of Kirby.
New Kirby – Marvel Masterworks FF v10
In comic stores today, the tenth volume of FF in the Marvel Masterworks series includes the last nine full issues of the series Jack Kirby wrote and drew, several of them being reprinted unedited for the first time ever. Marvel also advertised it as including some extras, so if you picked it up feel free to add a comment detailing what that turned out to be.
New Kirby – Collected Kirby Collector v5
Shipping to comic shops this week, THE COLLECTED JACK KIRBY COLLECTOR v5, collecting #20-#22 of the magazine, plus the usual selection of new pieces.
New Kirby – Silver Star Graphite Edition
Showing up in comic stores today, SILVER STAR GRAPHITE EDITION from TwoMorrows.
SILVER STAR – GRAPHITE EDITION
160 page 7×10 Trade Paperback – by Jack Kirby
Legendary artist Jack Kirby first conceptualized Silver Star in the mid-1970s as a movie screenplay, complete with illustrations to sell the idea to Hollywood. Too far ahead of its time for Tinseltown, Jack instead adapted his “Visual Novel” as a six- issue mini-series for Pacific Comics in the early 1980s, making it the last original creation of his career. Now, in SILVER STAR: GRAPHITE EDITION, “King” Kirby’s final, great series is collected at last, this time reproduced from his powerful, uninked pencil art! Read the complete story of Homo-Geneticus, the New Breed of humanity that spawns both hero (Silver Star) and villain (the nefarious Darius Drumm), leading to one of the most action- packed narratives and spellbinding climaxes ever conceived on a comics page! And as a special bonus, read Kirby’s provocative screenplay, reproduced in its entirety, including illustrations and never-published character sketches! Plus there’s pin-ups and other rare Kirby art, and an historical overview to put it all in perspective. A percentage of profits from this book go to the Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center, so don’t ask, just buy it! $20.00 cover price.
(note that an additional percentage goes to the Kirby Museum through the Amazon.com link)
New Kirby – Marvel Visionaries Jack Kirby v2
Shipping to comic stores this week is MARVEL VISIONARIES – JACK KIRBY v2, almost 350 pages of Kirby reprints, some never seen since their original publication. Contains selections from:
Captain America Comics #1; Marvel Mystery Comics #23; Yellow Claw #4; Strange Tales #89, 114; Two-Gun Kid #60; Love Romances #103; X-Men #9; Tales of Suspense #59; Sgt. Fury #13; Fantastic Four #57-60; Not Brand Echh #1; Thor #154-157; Devil Dinosaur #1.
My impression of the choice of contents was posted here.
New Kirby – Kirby Collector, Gi/Ant-Man
Now available, THE JACK KIRBY COLLECTOR #45, 80 big pages about the past and future.
Apparently also out now is the Ant-Man/Giant-Man volume of MARVEL MASTERWORKS, containing every full story Kirby did for the character, as well as most of his covers. Some of this is reprinted in colour for the first time ever.
New Kirby – Fury Masterworks
The SGT. FURY MASTERWORKS hardcover, including all of Kirby’s full stories for the book (he did covers and a few interior pages in later issues) is out now. Have to say, I don’t usually pick up Masterworks books, but I’m tempted by this one (if I didn’t just pick up the TALES TO ASTONISH book I’d probably get it right away). If there isn’t an ESSENTIAL FURY in the next year I’ll probably get it.
Much more obscure, ESSENTIAL MOON KNIGHT should have a single Kirby cover among its 500+ pages. Might be worth picking up otherwise, if you like that kind of thing.
New Kirby – House of Mystery / Marvel Monsters
Two new Kirby reprints apparently out this week.
One Kirby reprint of a reprint should be in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL. 1, “The Negative Man” from HoM #84 in 1959, as reprinted in HoM #194. Lots of other good black and white stuff from the first two years of the Joe Orlando edited book.
Can anyone confirm that the MARVEL MONSTERS hardcover reprints the same four monster stories that were in the one-shots published last October?
