Upcoming Kirby – PI Real Love reprint

by

Pure Imagination is doing a new edition of the 1988 REAL LOVE collection that Eclipse published.  The original had 13 stories, most of them Simon&Kirby, and also some Bruno Premiani, Mort Meskin and Leonard Starr.  One difference, at least, instead of the photo cover from YOUNG LOVE #5 that the Eclipse edition used there’s this cover:

I don’t know the source of this one.

[Thanks to John in the comments, it’s the splash to “Dance Hall Pickup!” from YOUNG ROMANCE #16]

Anyway, page 317 of the May 2010 Previews, MAY101084 if you want to order it, or I’m sure you’ll be able to get it direct from PI.  It’s an excellent set of stories and, at least for one more year the only substantial collection of S&K romance work available.

Bob: That image is from the splash page of “Dance Hall Pickup!” from YOUNG ROMANCE #16, Dec., 1949. And anyone who didn’t pick up REAL LOVE the first time around should definitely catch it on the rebound!

Thanks for the reference, John. And as he said, it is an entertaining set of stories. “Different”, “The Girl Who Tempted Me”, “One Way to Hold Him”, all of those real classics of the genre.

Why “thankfully”, Chris? Shouldn’t Joe (in conjunction with the Kirby Estate) have the copyright on the Simon and Kirby material? If not, who should? Theakston? Some Big Corporation like Marvel or DC? Were they the authors of the work? No, Simon and Kirby were the authors, so they and/or their heirs are the rightful copyright holders.
