New Kirby – Amazing Fantasy Omnibus

by

Now available is the AMAZING FANTASY OMNIBUS, collecting AMAZING ADVENTURES #1-6, AMAZING ADULT FANTASY #7-14 and AMAZING FANTASY #15. Mostly Ditko, of course, especially the later issues, but lots of Kirby in the first six issues, including the adventures of Doctor Droom.

Upcoming Kirby – Odd Jimmy O. reprint

by

I don’t really follow current goings-on at DC enough to know what connection 35-year-old Jimmy Olsen stories have with DC’s current linewide crossover, but here you go.

Also, for those interested in such things, action figures of Darkseid, Orion, Lightray and Mister Miracle coming out next year based on Kirby’s art (though it seems to me the molding emulating the squiggles looks like it’s carved in their bodies).

Panels – A most fabulous mechanism

by

“A most fabulous mechanism” is a pretty good description of almost any Kirby machine. I’d certainly hate to leave one behind if I was forced to destroy my volcano based lair.

Panels – ZINNNG

Though he’d get a lot better very quickly, Kirby’s early stuff is a lot of fun, rough edge and all, especially in showing expressions on faces and conveying movement.

Panels – Ben likes his cake

by

Ah, that’s the spirit of teamwork that you like to see.

But my favourite part of this panel is the giant hunk of cake that Ben is having with his coffee.

That’s a great looking ancient face of experience. A lot of nice throwbacks to Kirby’s long history in western comics in this issue, too.
