We’re sorry to report that our Walking Tour guide, Museum Founder Rand Hoppe is not feeling well and will not be able to host the tour on the Monday, the 28th. However, he should be fine in a week on Monday, September 4th, so we’re re-scheduling until then at 6:00pm.
Details remain much the same:
Starting at 6:00 pm at the corner of Delancey and Essex Streets, we’ll make our way to Kirby’s birthplace, then to the location of his boyhood home, and will end at the location of the boy’s club that was instrumental to his upbringing. If you’ve attended the tour in the past, an exciting new location will be added!
At each stop, we will share stories and facts about Jack Kirby’s life on the Lower East Side and engage in some friendly Q&A about his work and career. There will also be a guerrilla street theater reading of his autobiographical story Street Code near where he grew up, and (new!) trivia questions with prizes! Check our website or social feeds for more information as the date gets closer.
This is a free, non-ticketed event. Donations welcome! Show up and celebrate with us!
The tour will last approximately 90 minutes with a walking distance of less than a mile. The tour will be livestreamed! Again, more details as we get closer.

2:00 pm – Kirby at War Screening (free ticketed event)
Since we’re opening on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11th, our first ticketed event at 2pm will consist of showing our friends Marc Azema and Jean Depelley’s documentary Kirby at War. After his upbringing in NYC’s dog-eat-dog Lower East Side ghetto, Kirby’s harrowing experiences in Europe in World War II continued to inform his life and work. With great respect and humility, we’re honored to be able to acknowledge this time in his life, and how it affected his continuing use of the themes we’re presenting.
Producer and art director Barry Geller and inker/letterer extraordinaire Mike Royer join us for a livestreamed virtual event! Kirby’s Lord of Light works are some of his most inspired mythological visuals, and we’re thrilled to be able to talk about it with Barry and Mike.

The Jack Kirby Museum is proud to announce our first pop-up event of 2018. A Jack Kirby Odyssey will celebrate the King of Comics’ visionary work adapting and expanding on Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Kirby Museum’s A Jack Kirby Odyssey will take place at One Art Space, located at 23 Warren Street in New York City, from May 11 through May 13.
Just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kubrick’s cinematic masterpiece, the Jack Kirby Museum will present an oversized reproduction Kirby’s adaptation of the movie, compilations of the photocopies of Kirby’s pencil art for his subsequent stories, which have never been reprinted, as well as dramatic, multimedia performances of three of these stories.
“Jack Kirby’s 2001: A Space Odyssey comics were pure Kosmic Kirby at the top of his craft, expanding on the 2001 story in ways not even masters like Kubrick or Clarke could have imagined,” says Kirby Museum Acting Director, Rand Hoppe. “We can’t wait for fans to have their minds blown by the stories AND the visuals.”
“The comics on display for A Jack Kirby Odyssey were painstakingly reproduced from the photocopies of Kirby’s pencil art,” adds Kirby Museum President, Tom Kraft. “The oversized comics at our Kirby 100 birthday celebration at One Art Space were big hits. We expect people will love seeing Kirby’s cosmic pencil art at large size, too.”
A Special Four Day Event Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Jack Kirby
NEW YORK, NY (August 15, 2017) – Jack Kirby, the co-creator of Captain America, The Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, and many other pop culture icons, played an indispensable role in the emergence of comics as an art form. Kirby is to comics what Hitchcock or Spielberg are to movies, Babe Ruth is to baseball, or The Beatles are to rock n’ roll. Not only was Kirby incredibly prolific and influential, but he was an innovator whose work has come to define fantastic storytelling in comics and beyond.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Jack Kirby’s birth, the Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center will open a special, limited-engagement event, celebrating the life, legacy, and boundless creativity of the King of Comics. “Jack Kirby – 100 Years” will take place at One Art Space, located at 23 Warren Street in New York City, from August 27-30.
Jack Kirby 100 Years Highlights Include:
Oversized reproductions of some of Kirby’s most famous work.
Opening reception and birthday party
A peek into the Museum’s digital archive, allowing fans access to thousands of pages of scanned art.
A gift shop featuring limited edition prints of Kirby artwork, books, t-shirts, and more.
A Kirby 100 Years talk by Founding Trustee Rand Hoppe
An introduction to the Kirby Museum by Trustees Tom Kraft and Rand Hoppe
More to be announced as we get closer to the date.
About Us
The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center is organized exclusively for educational purposes; more specifically, to promote and encourage the study, understanding, preservation and appreciation of the work of Jack Kirby. Kirby 100 marks our third pop-up event in New York City and we regularly travel the US and Europe putting on and assisting exhibitions and lectures about Mr. Kirby’s life and art.
The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center is proud to announce the 100 Days of Kirby in honor of Jack’s approaching 100th birthday on August 28. Our Kirby centenary efforts will consist of live events, talks, parties, and a few surprises along the way. We’ll be working with friends, members, and donors both in the United States and the international community to make Jack’s 100th birthday a global event.
As part of our Kirby 100 effort, we’re offering some exciting new donation rewards and membership options. Your donation will allow us to honor Jack Kirby the way he deserves, and help us to scale future efforts, both to celebrate Jack’s centenary and beyond.
