FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE JACK KIRBY MUSEUM RETURNS TO NYC WITH NEW POP-UP EVENT
“Jack Kirby: From the Ghetto to the Cosmos” will run for one week at New York City’s One Art Space
NEW YORK, NY – 21 October 2025 – The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center is back in New York City with a new pop-up display celebrating the life, influences, and lasting legacy of the King of Comics. “Jack Kirby: From the Ghetto to the Cosmos” will run for one week at One Art Space in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood from Wednesday, November 12th through Monday, November 17th.
Tracking Jacob Kurtzberg’s life, starting as an impoverished Jewish boy in NYC’s teeming Lower East Side and ending as a master of imagination for pop culture giants like Marvel and DC, influencing millions, “Jack Kirby: From the Ghetto to the Cosmos” features displays that tell biographical details, show the finer details of his artwork and process, and present familiar works at larger scale. The pop-up display will span the length of Kirby’s fascinating life and career, from his “Kid Gang” stories to the cosmic wonder of his Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, and Thor at Marvel, and his later sci-fi epics such as DC’s New Gods and Forever People and his stunning Lord of Light work.
An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, November 12th from 6-9 pm.
Featured displays and themes include:
- Street Codes: Kirby’s only explicitly autobiographical story, the 10-page “Street Code!,” will be featured “larger than life,” as well as samples from his other “Kid Gang” stories such as Newsboy Legion and Dingbats of Danger Street.
- Space Seed: Pages from Kirby’s early Flash Gordon-inspired comics like “Cosmic Carson” and examples of his comic strip “Sky Masters of the Space Force” will be presented.
- The Fantastic Leap: A look at his development of cosmic space elements in his Silver Age work in the Fantastic Four and Thor, including the mind-bending introduction and development of the Silver Surfer.
- Gods and Giants: Kirby’s late career epics, including the New Gods and Forever People in his Fourth World, The Eternals, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Lord of Light will be featured.
Special Events and Programming
The pop-up will feature an exciting schedule of live events designed to engage all aspects of Kirby fandom and scholarship, including:
- Daily Livestreams: The exhibit will feature daily livestreams, whether a walking tour of the Lower East Side, or dramatic readings of “The New Seed” from 2001: A Space Odyssey and “Street Code!”
- Live Podcast Recording: The popular Jacked Kirby podcast will record a special episode live (tentatively Saturday, November 15th).
- A full schedule of speakers, livestreams, podcast recordings, and more will be published on kirbymuseum.org in the coming weeks.
“Part of the genius of Kirby lies in his ability to process the chaotic energy of life and expand it into the endless, mythic scale of the cosmos,” says Rand Hoppe, director and founder of the Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center.” This pop-up display is a celebration of The Stories and Images of Comics’ Greatest Writer and Artist.”
