It’s not just the cover art on this that’s Kirby. The brief the writers of this future-Mars SF anthology and the two full-length novels that follows was “Kirby meets Burroughs” and the end product is laced with Kirby-style plots and characters. In fact the author of the two sequels, DYNASTY OF MARS and SPIRES OF MARS actually talks about visualizing the “Kirby comic version” of his stories in an interview podcast at RIC’S COMICS.

There’s a little more talk about the King on the Blackthorn website letters page (yep, an old-style old-school letters column!) . I’m pretty sure that more Kirby comment there (to JohnBlackthorn@mail.com) would steer a lot more fans of this popular series towards this site and maybe to appreciate more of Jack’s work and legacy.
