I'm sure this is a pretty obvious comparison, but Darkseid and Orion are similar to Darth Vader and Luke. Orion, taken from his evil father as a child, is destined to battle with his father while fighting the darkness within himself.

Hmm... Lucas "borrowing" from Jack? Maybe... This trope is literally ancient (Oh Greeks, you've told every story there is to tell you jerks), but the comparisons are pretty interesting.

I've noticed the covers of these old comics rarely show things that don't appear in the book. This might be an obvious statement, but I'm kind of a comics neophyte, so I'm not sure how prevalent this practice is.

Like Jimmy running down Supes in JO #133. When I first opened the Omnibus (my first experience with Kirby btw) I assumed the regular JO reader would be shocked to see him "GUN HIM DOWN!" on the cover, but then I looked at JO #132 and Jimmy's selling Supes (and Clark's identity) out to gangsters with Kryptonite handcuffs.

I'm guessing it doesn't quite go down that way in the story.

This one really takes the cake though. I wonder if there is a collection of misleading comic book covers somewhere.

I'm aware that they are trying to grab attention to sell copies to unsuspecting kids, but even then I would assume even they would figure it out. But then there is always another crop of kids...

Is this a Golden/Silver/Bronze age thing, or is it pretty much consistent through comic history?

I LOVE that 2nd panel. Visual exposition as the bad guys look over a model of the places we've visited in the last three issues. I love those Kirby evocative proper names - THE PROJECT! ZOOMWAY! WILD AREA! HABITAT!

"Up to now we are lead to believe Justifiers are humans doing tasks for Darkseid, but this comment may indicate that at least some are originally from non-human Apokolips."

With all due respect, if someone referred to Johnny Storm as 'The Human Torch' that someone is not necessarily himself a nonhuman torch, but is more likely a human non-torch.

So here too the Justifier (to justify his hatred for his brother human being) is referring to his victims as 'human trash' not because he sees himself as non-human, but because he sees himself as non-trash.

This is my first comment on this site Jon, and I want to tell you great job on this. As an 8 year old kid, Mister Miracle blew my young mind, issue 16 being the 1st of the title I bought new off the rack. Since then I've read all of the 1st 18 issues and I agree with you in that I think # 2 was a little better than # 1, although I did like # 1 a lot. I think Jack was ahead of his time regarding his 4th World titles and I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. I'm glad I found this site and look forward to reading more from you! Take care.
